Glacier Bay, Alaska Experiences High Humpback Population

Cruise ships have been called into action to slow down in Glacier Bay, Alaska. Instead of the previous 13 knots, ships must maintain a maximum of 10 knots while within the boundaries of the Bay. There has been a recent influx of Humpback whales in the area and it has caused raised some concerns.

Prestanding requirements will stay as such, the largest one being the rule to stay at least a quarter of a mile away from all whales in order to prevent any sort of collision.

When asked, a spokesperson for both Holland America and Princess cruise lines both said that this new rule will not affect your viewing capabilities nor will you notice a difference.
